present crocks + future memories
When I opened my shop in 2018, my husband and I kept joking that I would never have a paycheck because I’d probably spend it all on the beautiful items I sell in the store. But to my surprise, over these last six years, I’ve been surprisingly good about not taking anything. I will occasionally grab a candle, or treat myself to a cookbook I know we’re going to restock, but for the most part, I’m pretty hands off. I always feel a little guilty plucking something off the shelf to treat myself, because, what if somebody walks in tomorrow and this was the EXACT thing they were looking for and all the other ones sold out before they made it in? Anyways, I treated myself the other day to one of these large crocks we have had in stock for the last couple months @saltcreekmercantile. It’s a line of handmade pottery, and being a little on the pricey side, items like this tend to move a bit slower, and I needed a new crock for my rolling pin collection so it seemed safe to snag one. I showed my husband, he agreed it looked really nice, and then he asked (or perhaps I presented) the obvious question of “do I really need that many rolling pins?” to which I answered “yes, because one day we might have grandchildren coming to visit us at the holidays, and I want them to all be able to pick out a pin while we roll out cookie dough around the island.” And that sealed the deal folks.
Present crocks hold future memories.
